Home Overview Introduction

The Metropolitan Mobility Observatory (MMO) is an analysis and observation initiative made up of the Public Transport Authorities (PTA) of the main Spanish metropolitan areas, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, and the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, with the aim of reflecting the contributions of public transport to the improvement of quality of life and sustainable development in cities. The MMO is permanently open to other PTA that may be established and incorporated in the future. Other collaborators include the National Rail Board RENFE, the Institute for Energy Diversification and Savings (I.D.A.E.), the Spanish Railway Foundation, the Association of Urban Transport Collectives, the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces, and the CCOO Trade Union Federation.

The MMO publishes an annual report analyzing the mobility of participating metropolitan areas, with data provided by the different PTA, without which the report would be impossible to write. Since the MMO creation in 2003, 13 reports have been published for the years 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Another important activity is the MMO Technical Conferences, which presents the annual reports. These conferences are intended to establish a permanent forum for discussion and debate of problems and solutions of transport in urban areas, and deal with topics of current interest for the improvement of transport in our cities.
